Alissa Goretsky
Soprano
Hailed for her "distinctive" and "brilliant" voice
by The Houston Chronicle, soprano Alissa Goretsky spends her second season with the Houston Grand Opera as a member of the prestigious Butler Studio Program. She can be seen as Curley's Wife (Of Mice and Men), Gretel (Hansel and Gretel), Taumännchen (Hänsel und Gretel), Young Lover (Il Tabarro), Nursing Sister (Suor Angelica), and Berta (Il barbiere di Siviglia) on the HGO stage this season. After covering Helmwige (Die Walküre) and Mimì (La bohème) with The Santa Fe Opera in 2025, she looks forward to a return to the company this summer. A force in competition, Alissa has earned accolades including 3rd Place in the Houston Grand Opera Concert of Arias, 1st Place in the Palm Springs Opera Guild Competition and the Premiere Opera Foundation International Competition, and Grand Prize in the San Francisco Conservatory Concerto Competition. She is a National Winner of the 2025 Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition.

A honeyed soprano with ready flexibility and hall-filling power.
"As Curley's Wife, Alissa Goretsky realized the role's crucial ingredients of a woman both troubled and troublesome because of her isolation and loneliness. Her honeyed soprano voice suited the young bride's beauty with a ready flexibility for the flirtatious melismas when in the company of ranch hands and a hall-filling power during her strident neglected-wife's squabbles with Curley."
